Liz Carmouche scores the knockout and PFL World Tournament Title

Jena Bishop, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist, has scored five submissions with her 9-2 record in MMA so far. Bishop made it to the Semifinals of last year’s Global Season as well, losing to eventual champion Dakota Ditcheva. Bishop defeated Kana Watanabe and Ekaterina Shakalova this year and now is one win away from claiming PFL gold.

 

Liz Carmouche is a pioneer of women’s MMA, having faced the likes of Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko, Jessica Andrade, Miesha Tate, Alexis Davis and more. Carmouche captured the Bellator Women’s Flyweight World Title in 2022 and defended it three times before joining the PFL. While Carmouche fell in the Semifinals last year, she has now reached the finals with wins over Ilara Joanne and Elora Dana.

Round 1

 

Both women start off with jabs. Carmouche coming forward to start. Low kick by Carmouche. Jab by Bishop. Carmouche misses the right. Low kick by Bishop. Bishop with a left to the body. Short combinations by Bishop. Left hand by Bishop. Right hand by Bishop. Low kick by Carmouche. Flurry by Bishop is blocked by Carmouche. Left hand by Bishop. Low kick by Carmouche. Small flurry by Bishop that backs Carmouche up. Bishop presses Carmouche into the fence.

 

Bishop with a knee on the inside. Shoulder punches from Carmouche. Carmouche lands a series of short right hands. Knee and shots to the sides by Carmouche. Bishop with a knee to the body. Left hands to the head by Carmouche. Knee to the body by Bishop. Carmouche tries to re-pummel, but Bishop defends the inside. Short knees by Bishop. Carmouche gets off the fence with a minute left. Left hand by Carmouche. Bishop misses a right hand. Carmouche flashes the right. Bishop backs Carmouche up. One-twos from both men. Right hand by Bishop. Strong combination by Carmouche with Bishop up against the fence in the closing seconds.

 

 

Round 2

 

Carmouche flashes the right hand. Low kick by Carmouche. Left hand by Bishop. Left hand by Carmouche. Carmouche with the right hands. Low kick by Bishop. Right hand by Carmouche. Low kick by Carmouche. Low kick by Bishop. Right hand by Carmouche. Bishop catches a low kick and tries for a takedown, but Carmouche blocks it and gets on the neck. Short knees by both women, and Carmouche trips Bishop. Right hands to the body on the ground by Carmouche.

 

Bishop throws up her legs for an armbar. Carmouche tries to slam out of it, but Bishop transitions and rolls, trying to loosen the defenses. Bishop nearly has the arm! She transitions to a triangle! Elbows by Bishop. Carmouche pressures and rolls through and gets out of it! Carmouche now looks for the back, and now Carmouche threatens a triangle! Bishop gets up, but Carmouche lands strong elbows. The two clinch up against the fence now. Carmouche seems to be grimacing as they exchange low inside shots. A jockeying for position now. Shoulder punches by Bishop. Carmouche with a heel hook attempt in the closing seconds! Bishop escapes and gets right on top.

 

 

 

Round 3

 

Both women flash the jab. Low kick by Carmouche. Bishop flashes the left. Low kick by Carmouche. Left hand by Carmouche. Body kick by Bishop. Carmouche throws the right hand. One-two by Carmouche. Bishop with a left hand. Pace has definitely slowed down here; neither is landing much. A couple of low kicks from Carmouche. Bishop has seemed to have the better range so far. And she tries to land the left hand, but Carmouche is keeping space.

 

Right hand by Carmouche. Low kick by Carmouche. Jab by Carmouche. Strong left hand drops Bishop! A couple of shots, and the ref steps in!
