Lazaro Dayron Wins Battle Of Unbeaten Bantamweights

Bryce Meredith was a highly successful wrestler, going from four-time state champion in Wyoming in high school, to becoming a conference champion and three-time All-American at the University of Wyoming, to medaling at the 2020 Granma y Cerro Pelado International in Cuba. An MMA Lab product, and teammate to Sean O’Malley and Mario Bautista, Meredith is 7-0 in professional MMA, including five finishes. Meredith went 3-0 in Bellator and is currently 1-0 in PFL, scoring wins over Ty Johnson and Jonathan Macalolooy last year.

 

Lazaro Dayron is also a wrestling specialist, having been a nine-time national medalist in freestyle wrestling and multiple-time international champion for Cuba. Dayron, whose brother is a U.S. national wrestler and his mother a judo practitioner, competed at Pan American Championships & international Grand Prix events as a former member of the Cuban National Olympic wrestling team. A training partner to A.J. McKee, Dayron is 8-0-1 in MMA, battling Danny Sabatello to a draw last year in his PFL debut.

Round 1

 

Left hand from Meredith is blocked. The two circling in the center of the SmartCage. Right hand from Meredith backs Dayron up. Dayron grabs onto a leg, and Meredith fires off left hands. Dayron gets to the back with the two pressed against the fence. Meredith with the sitting switch. Dayron tried for another takedown, only for Meredith to scramble and counter. Combination by Meredith. Meredith with a level change, and he gets the takedown. Meredith is on the back of Dayron now as he gets back to his feet.

 

Meredith with a right hand. Dayron with a solid couple of straights. Exchange between the two, and Dayron gets another takedown. Meredith gets back to his feet and to the fence, trying to break the grip. They move back to the center with two minutes left. Meredith with another takedown attempt, and he gets it. Meredith gets to the back. Elbows by Dayron. Meredith with elbows. Another strong elbow seems to hurt Dayron! The two swing, and Dayron scores another takedown! Meredith gets Dayron’s legs trapped.

 

 

Round 2

 

Low kick by Meredith. Left hand by Meredith. One-two by Meredith. Exchange near the fence. Left hand by Dayron. Left jabs from both men. Low kick by Meredith. Meredith with a round kick. Hooks from both men. Low kick by Meredith, but Dayron lands a right hand. Left hand by Dayron. Meredith with a level change. Dayron sprawls, but can’t stop the second effort. Dayron gets to his feet, but Meredith lands a knee.

 

Low kicks from both men. Right hand by Dayron, and he’s got a facelock briefly. Straights from both men after Meredith gets to his feet. Meredith with another level change and takedown. Combinations from both men in an exchange. Low kick by Meredith, followed by another takedown attempt. Back to the feet, and Meredith lands a knee to the body. Left hand by Dayron. Right hand by Dayron. Meredith throws a few right hands coming forward, and then he scores another takedown.Dayron gets to his feet with 10 seconds left. Dayron landing a strong combination before the bell.

 

 

 

Round 3

 

Low kick by Meredith. And another. Left hand by Dayron. Low kick by Dayron. Dayron stops another Meredith takedown attempt. Right hand by Meredith. Dayron landing the left hand. Another left hand by Dayron. And again. Dayron stops another takedown attempt. There’s a fence grab! But Meredith takes him down anyway. Dayron appears to have a kimura grip on. He’s forced to let go, and Meredith is on top of him, getting to his back. Dayron controlling the wrist. Meredith gets a hook in.

 

 

Dayron gets away and pursues with a forward pace, looking for his own takedown attempt. Meredith gets over him and gets a body triangle as Dayron stands. Dayron falls over, and the two get back standing in the center. Left hand by Dayron. Strong right hand from Dayron drops Meredith! Follow-up shots, and this one is over!

 

 

Lazaro Dayron survives the aggressive wrestling pace of Meredith, and he keeps his 0 while ruining Meredith’s!
