Malik Basahel shows strong ground game to earn second win in second pro fight with second-round submission

Malik Basahel is a three-time amateur flyweight champion and a 2023 IMMAF silver medalist, who went 21-3-1, with 13 stoppages as an amateur. This included three amateur victories inside the PFL SmartCage. Basahel made his professional MMA debut at the PFL MENA event this past May, scoring a second-round finish of Mountasser Boutouta.

Ahmed Mostafa made his professional MMA debut in July 2021, coming up short against Beshoy Gaber. The Egyptian fighter then won three straight, including a finish via submission, before losing his most recent fight against Martin Medhat in February.

Who will be victorious in this flyweight showcase?

Round 1

The two move to the center. Low kick by Mostafa. Mostafa moving forward. Mostafa throws a high kick. Basahel with a jab. He throws a couple of punches and level changes, but Mostafa stuffs the takedown attempt. Basahel returns to the feet and he gets a second chance, tripping Mostafa and scoring the takedown. Mostafa makes his way back to the feet, and he now presses Basahel into the fence.

Basahel has one foot up as Mostafa presses him into the fence. Mostafa explodes with a back take and attempts the takedown. Mostafa appears to get the takedown, but a big scramble ensues and Basahel ends up on top! Basahel looks to be setting up an arm-triangle choke. Basahel working in side control, landing elbows. Basahel appears to be searching for an arm. Basahel has the arm-triangle position again, putting his weight on one of Mostafa’s legs. Basahel ends the round on top.

Round 2

Basahel catches a calf kick and gets the takedown right away, going right into side control. Mostafa gets his guard up and forces Basahel to work inside it. Basahel works back into side control, getting a crucifix position. Basahel now gets the full mount. Mostafa gives up his back, and Basahel is in full control here. He flattens Mostafa out. Basahel lands a few punches before locking in the choke and scoring the submission!
